Building Awareness: Resources for

Multiple System Atrophy

Introduction

Hello, my name is Greg. I am living with a terminal illness called Multiple System Atrophy, an underdiagnosed and rare neurodegenerative disease that falls under the umbrella of Alpha-Synucleinopathies, including Parkinsonian syndrome, Multiple System Atrophy, and Lewy Body Dementia. This rapidly deteriorating disease has profoundly altered my life.

Understanding Multiple System Atrophy

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare and debilitating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of motor and autonomic functions. The disease is driven by Synuclein proteins which form aggregates in the brain, suffocating neurons and impairing critical brain functions. These changes lead to severe motor symptoms and autonomic dysfunction, drastically impacting the quality of life for those affected.

My Background

I previously served in the army and the prison service, and the diagnosis of MSA came as a significant shock, overturning my life. Transitioning from a physically demanding career to managing a life-altering illness has been challenging, yet it has also instilled within me a passion to support others facing similar struggles.

Purpose

As part of my legacy, I aim to establish or convert a purpose-built facility that incorporates a social café alongside a rehabilitation/exercise center. This space is intended to provide individuals with MSA and other related diseases the opportunity to connect with one another, fostering a sense of community and support. The objective is to offer a social life beyond their homes, encourage them to combat the disease, and ultimately help them live longer.

Sponsorship

On August 9th this year, there is a planned event of a sponsored walk through Gosport high Street, 10 miutes or so at the Falklands Garden by the ferry then if your all still fighting fit we will make our way round to Stokes Bay then up past Bay House school to the Cocked Hat pub then a gentle stroll along Privet Road, home. Buggies, Rollators anything you like all welcome to join us.

How You Can Help

Your support can make a substantial difference in the lives of those affected by MSA. By contributing to this initiative, you will be part of a legacy that provides hope and resilience to individuals battling this rare disease. Together, we can create a space that not only enhances their quality of life but also empowers them to face their challenges with strength and determination.

Conclusion

Thank you for your support. Your contribution to this cause will not only honor my journey but also provide a lifeline to others dealing with Multiple System Atrophy. Let us work together to improve the lives of those who need it most.
